Why Has the World of Sailor Moon Become a Must-See?
First aired on March 7, 1992, Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon anime quickly became a benchmark of the "magical girl" type. When Usagi Tsukino begins her metamorphosis into Sailor Moon, it is a festival of colors carried by a bewitching melody that starts. The same goes for the other warriors who work to stop the plans of the witch Beryl.
Sailor Moon is first and foremost a story about the eternal struggle between good and evil. On one side, Queen Serenity acts as a light guard. On the other, Mettalia is trying to plunge the world into darkness through the enchantress Beryl. A story where bravery, justice and empathy are carried by rhythmic songs and engaging characters.
With such assets, geeks didn't resist for long before being seduced by the world of Sailor Moon. Yet, on paper, nothing suggested that this story between Selenites and humans would be such a success...
The World of Sailor Moon: What Is It About?
Usagi Tsukino is a 14-year-old teenager who lives in the heart of Azabu (Tokyo) district in Japan. A bit of an airhead, she spends most of her time playing video games and dreaming of boys. One day, while she is doing her job, a little black cat with the moon symbol approaches her... Gifted with speech, the cat introduces herself as Luna, one of the advisors of the Queen of the Moon, Queen Serenity. With her sidekick Artemis, she helped the sovereign to ensure the well-being of her people.
10,000 years ago, her home kingdom, the Silver Millennium, was completely wiped out by Mettalia. As a last resort, Queen Serenity had no choice but to enclose Mettalia and her Dark Kingdom in a silver seal. And in case the seal broke, she allowed the souls of the Selenite warriors to be reincarnated on Earth. It just so happens that Usagi is the reincarnation of Princess Serenity's warrior form, Sailor Moon.
Although initially skeptical, the young girl accepts the mission. In her battle, she will be helped by Sailor Venus (Minako Aino), Sailor Mercury (Ami Mizuno), Sailor Mars (Rei Hino) and Sailor Jupiter (Makoto Kino). And from time to time, a mysterious masked prince, Tuxedo Mask, will come to lend them a hand.
