While visiting Greece, Mitsumasa Kido meets a man about to take his last breath. Taking advantage of his last moments, the latter reveals to him to be the Golden Saint of Sagittarius. Between his arms, he holds a baby named Saori whom he presents as the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. Although surprised by his revelations, Mitsumasa Kido knows that he has little time. Before the Knight of the Zodiac dies, he makes him the promise to protect the girl.

Back in Japan, he sponsors the training of 100 orphans in the hope of making them Bronze Saints. Among them, Seiya, Shiryu, Hyôga, Shun and Ikki will be noticed by their prowess.
